Academic Advisor – Challenge B

The Academic Advisor supports and fulfills Academic team commitments, such as: reviewing academic assets, conducting training webinars, delivering learning management tutorials, and answering emails, forum posts, and Customer Service tickets related to a particular program (Challenge A, Challenge B, Challenge I, Challenge II, Challenge III, or Challenge IV).

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school education. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Has homeschooled for three or more years and is committed to homeschooling through high school.
  • Currently tutoring/directing the program for which they are supporting and representing.
  • Passionate about classical Christian education. Demonstrates a love for learning and a love for parents and students. Cultivates and encourages others in classical Christian education.
  • Has directed a Classical Conversations program for three years and is not currently holding another leadership role with Classical Conversations (other than program director).
  • Is in good standing with Classical Conversations’ leadership, the local Classical Conversations community, and local leadership.
  • Has regular access to high-speed Internet connectivity.
  • Can travel 1-2 weeks per year.
  • Able to engage in web-based communications.
  • Withing 4 hours of Southern Pines, NC.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough and growing knowledge of classical education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible, orderly, amiable, and detail-oriented
  • Able to apply the classical model of education to curriculum, training resources, and online and onsite trainings.
  • Able to manage multiple projects at the same time and meet delivery deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise thoughtful judgment in relational matters, frequently considering the good of others above self.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in getting the right people involved at the right level for counsel and decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs
  • Willing to learn light project management, email best practices, and online webinar mediums.

Essential Duties

  • Program Support: Delivers online live and recorded training calls including but not limited to AO Wrap-ups and Remote AO for directors. Moderates online forums for directors and parents and responds to emails and Customer Service tickets from directors, providing timely, thoughtful responses to questions about curriculum, pedagogy, and programs using curated responses. May contribute to a monthly newsletter for directors.  Works with Lead AA to revise training resources as needed, including Academic Orientation materials and program guides. May pilot new or changing curriculum for a specific program level as needed.
  • Stewardship: Completes a personal scorecard monthly in support of company goals, records hours daily and submits timecard bi-weekly.  Consults Lead Academic Advisor before spending monies that require reimbursement. Keeps Lead Academic Advisor informed about workload.
  • Continued Learning: Attends quarterly round tables and periodic on-site meetings and completes Personal Learning Plan.
  • Communication: Posts daily Slack updates. Attends weekly online meetings and monthly meetings with Lead Academic Advisor. Communicates out to Lead Academic Advisor and manager with status updates, questions, and blockers. Escalates issues leadership as needed.
  • Reporting: Gathers monthly updates as requested.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time, up to four hours per day, with breaks.
  • Communicating over the Internet the and via phone.
  • 1-2 weeks of travel per year.

This role is remote.
Part Time: 12-15 hours per week.
